T'ai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung

The Harmony of Body, Mind, and Energy

These are “Internal Arts” rooted in the healing, meditational, and martial traditions of China.

They make use of relaxation, meditation, breathing, and postural techniques to help the student develop balanced and harmonious movements. Through consistent practice, these arts cultivate internal awareness, coordination, and vitality, often described as the smooth flow of qi or life energy. The emphasis is on gentle strength, mindfulness in motion, and the integration of body and mind, leading to improved health, emotional calm, and a deeper sense of inner stability.

T'ai Chi Chuan

Can be translated as “Supreme Ultimate Fist”. It is a martial art; the full system includes individual exercises, empty hand sequences, weapons forms and partner work. The emphasis is on harmonising the mind, body and internal energy, rather than just using muscular strength; so it can be practised by people of all abilities and ages. Potential students are very welcome and classes can be adapted according the student's specific needs.

Chi Kung

Is an umbrella term for a variety of exercises. It involves learning individual, or short sets of gentle meditative movements, for health and cultivating positive energy. The key difference between Chi Kung and T'ai Chi Chuan classes is that there is no work on a T'ai Chi form.
